I feel so blessed. Every day I look at what I have and couldn't feel more blessed. The thing is, I have too much. Way too much. I love being able to give. I want to give and actually make a big difference. This year I have been really interested in the ministries that make tangible progress in achieiving their goals. I love the idea that a ministry can set out with a mission, and even have a course of action and timeline for when their mission will be completed. And of course, once you finish helping one community, one village, or one city, what next? You move on to the next. If we all work together, then one by one, child by child, village by village, we can "seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow." (Isaiah 1:18) A while back I did a Mud Run with some friends, it was invigorating and freeing to run, jump, crawl and slosh through pools and piles of mud. After the race, I found a pamphlet on my bathroom floor and it must have come from my race packet. It was from a ministry called StarFysh. The pamphlet grabbed my heart and it hasn't let go. That is why Rylee's Collection is choosing Starfysh as the ministry to give a percentage of every single sale I have made this past year. It is hard to imagine what life would be like without access to clean water. Every day we take luxuriously hot showers, and drink, cook, and clean from our always-on-hand tap water.

This stat made me think:
• In just one day, more than 200 million hours of women’s time is consumed for the most basic of human needs — collecting water for domestic use. This lost productivity is greater than the combined number of hours worked in a week by employees at Wal*Mart, United Parcel Service, McDonald’s, IBM, Target, and Kroger, according to Gary White, co-founder of Water.org.
As a mother and woman who mostly stays at home to take care of my family, I am humbled as I think about all of the times I wish I could just get “some time to myself!” How crazy to think that many, many women around the globe are spending so many hours of their precious time COLLECTING WATER. This is such a basic need they are providing for their family, and for many it takes SOO much time. Not to mention that often this water is not even safe to drink. I am unable to fully comprehend this, but it does make me very thankful for all of the many resources God has made so readily available to me and my family.

FINALLY FOR THE GOOD NEWS: Together, we were able to provide access to clean water to 140 people for up to 10 YEARS!

Craft Show Saturday at Grandville High School

My next craft show is this Saturday (Oct. 17) from 9am-3pm at Grandville High School!

I'm loading up on the new fall products because they have been going so well. I should have plenty of beanies available on Saturday, as well as an abundance of headbands, clippies, bows and bow holders.

This fall has been busy with all the craft shows I booked myself in, plus the increase in sales that takes place in the fall. But I have found it is working out perfectly with my pregnancy! I'm in my second trimester where I am feeling better and have more energy. It's full speed ahead for a few months and then some time to relax right before the baby comes. I have decided I will most likely be closing up shop for the month of February as I am due on February 9.

I also want to say that I am very grateful to God for this business. I have so much fun with it, meet so many great people through it, and truly believe He has blessed it as it continues to grow. It has been wonderful for me to stay home with my daughter (soon to have 2 daughters!), and still be able to use this ambitious, crafty and "business-y" side of me.

What a beautiful weekend!

After this weekend, I can finally say it feels like summer! This is the first time this summer that I've been able to be outdoors on a near 80 degree sunny day in the afternoon enjoying the nice weather and doing summer activities.

The Rockford Start of Summer Celebration Craft Show went really great. The whole celebration was quite something with so many different activities going on and quite a crowd in attendance throughout the weekend. The days were very long, and it was HOT - I did get a sunburn!

I was excited to find that my new crochet headbands were a huge hit! I am excited to add them to the online sites, but I think I am going to be sure I have a full array of colors before I do!

Another exciting note about this weekend is that I met Amy, the owner of a brand new children's consignment store in Greenville, MI called Baby Boomers. We made arrangements for her to carry some of my products in her store. If you are around the Greenville area any time you should be sure to check out her store!

Craft Show this weekend June 12-13 in Rockford!

I have been working hard the past couple of weeks so that I have a TON of inventory for this coming weekend. The craft show is from 12-7pm Friday, and 11am-7pm on Saturday right in downtown Rockford. It is impossible to miss the show when you go into the downtown area!

I'm not sure where my booth is yet, but I will be under a white tent (probably like everyone else!), and I will be there for both days. Another weekend, another wedding

My friend, Martha, just got married this past weekend. It was, of course, so much fun. I didn't realize how much being in a wedding can wear you out by the end of it. After my sister's wedding two weeks ago I was exhausted, and then this weekend by Sunday I felt totally "out of it". Am I just getting old?? :)

I did, however, find some time this weekend to get started on my inventory for my next craft show in Rockford on June 12 and 13 (Friday and Saturday). I'm excited to debut my new crochet headbands and also have a few kufi beanie caps. I'm looking to add more beanies in the fall since they are more of a fall and winter accessory. The headband are fabulous. They are even more stretchy than a nylon headband, and look so cute and just a little dressier. Rylee will not normally wear headbands anymore, but she LOVED this headband when I put it on her. It probably helped that I fawned all over her telling her how "pretty" she looked!

All ribbon charts have been updated for Large, Medium, Small, and Signature bows at http://www.ryleescollection.com/! There is a great new selection! Most are the same, but I have new ribbon to introduce as some have sold out permanently.

Also updated is the ribbon selection for Original No-Slip clips, as well as Mini snaps and Mini Pigtail sets! These updated charts are a work in progress and have not yet made it on my Etsy website yet.

I'm always looking for more ideas, so if you have a request for a certain color, style and size of ribbon let me know!

This site is for parents of kids age 12 and under that live in the Grand Rapids area. It is a great resource for anything from knowing where local garage sales are, to finding a fun class to enroll your child in, or learning about local shops that sell fun kids' items. CPSIA compliant!

I am proud to say that all of my products are CPSIA compliant! (Don't know what the CPSIA is? Read here.)That means there is no lead or phthalates in anything. I have certificates from my main supplier that they have done the testing themselves. Then, for all of my other components that I couldn't get supplier certificates for, I personally had them tested by a certified technician of a XRF lead-testing gun! It feels good to know that my products are SAFE and LEGAL.

It was a stressful time when I was considering the potential of having to shut down business because of this new law. I love what I do far too much to give up quietly. Thankfully for most crafters, they did put an extension ("stay") on the deadline. However, I did the testing anyway so that I am able to say that I offer safe products, and have the certificates to back it up. I found affordable XRF gun testing by grouping together with a bunch of other crafters and splitting the cost. It really is much more affordable than a lot of people made it out to be. It certainly is not "thousands" of dollars. You just have to do some research, band together with others in your area, and get creative!

I have been working on updating the available ribbon that I have to offer for each product because I have so much more than I show on the site! I'm not quite through yet, but I feel good that I've gotten this far. Bangles are now officially on the site. And the new ribbon selection for Mini, Original, Signature and Small Bow Clips is complete!!

We are finished with the Craft show season until after the New Year. With a good 6 months of business under our belts I think we are doing well and learning a lot! Thanks to all you great customers!

Thanks to everyone who made the Rockford craft show a great success for Rylee's Collection! The dollar bow basket was such a hit, I will be offering it again on November 22 at Hudsonville High School's Holiday Craft Show. Flower clips have been a huge hit as well, and I will be debuting some brand new FLOWER CLIPS at this show!

We will be at a craft show this Saturday at Rockford High School. It is from 9am-4pm and we are booth 143 in the Lower Gym area. Deena will be there with her jewelry, I will be there with all the hair accessories, and our friend Joslyn will be there selling other cute baby items (burp cloths, wipes cases, etc.).

I am going to have a basket of a BUNCH of bows for only ONE DOLLAR!!
I'm not sure how many there are, but I think there are at least 50 bows in the basket - and everything in there is only $1. I must clarify that these bows were actually not made by me, and they do not have my trademark NO-SLIP grip strips nor are they fully lined. BUT, they are still cute and will work well to slide in next to ponytails or to attach to my nylon headbands.

Blingin' Striped Flower Clips

The flower clips I have had for sale have been such a hit that I just got some new and different ones that are in great fall colors! You can view them on my store by clicking here. I can put these on either a Mini Snap Clip for the "barely hair" girls, or a big snap like they are pictured above. Rylee wears them on a big snap clip!

I am currently running a special on the Etsy site that if you purchase $5 you get free Halloween clippies! This is only for Etsy purchases to get things moving on that shop site. But you can always do a "pick up" order to avoid shipping if you know me or live close by. :)

New Christmas Clippies!!

I bought some cute ribbon at Michaels' the other day and was so excited about the cute little Holiday Clippies I made! On the top is the Mini Snap Clips for itty bitty ones, or for those 'near baldies'. On the bottom are the standard No Slip Original Alligator Clips. I will be displaying these on my websites in the near future!

OK, I am new to blogging - but I hear it's great! I thought I'd start by showing off one of Rylee's One Year pictures. We had her hair in cute pigtails so I made some pigtail bows to match her dress.

These are made on partially-lined alligator clips so they slip in so easy! They still have the trademark grip strip so they stay put. I just love making her new hair things for (almost) every outfit! ;)
